So what is Blu-Ray, besides just another way to raise prices and separate the public from its money? What makes a Blu-Day discs different from a blank CD or blank DVD?

The short answer is “High Definition.”

With the innovation of HD technology, a disc with more storage space became a necessity. A DVD has a capacity of 4.7GB of which, about 4.3GB can actually be used. An HD movie with digital sound won’t fit on DVD in full HD. It will only fit in SD. To truly experience the full HD quality of a movie, a disc with larger capacity has to be used. Single layer Blu-Ray discs have a capacity of 25GB and dual layer discs have 50GB of space.
